“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things”
correct me if i’m wrong, but maria from the sound of music was referencing copper moscow mule mugs when she sang about the bright copper kettles, right?! no? are you sure? well, if she wasn’t, then a modern day maria surely would be.
it was love at first sip for me and the moscow mule – it’s a refreshing mix of fresh squeezed lime juice, spicy ginger beer, a hint of mint + the moscow part: vodka! it basically tastes like a grown up ginger ale! amiright!?
the zippy feeling i got from the first sip was reminiscent of that i’ve felt from other cocktails such as the cucumber margarita, salty chihuahua + the pineapple back (yes, that’s referencing a pineapple juice chaser for a shot of tequila). alright fine, you win. the love was reminiscent of my adoration for anything with tequila. so you can imagine my excitement when i got wind of the tequila take on the classic. olé!
i’m ‘that guy’ when it comes to birthday celebrating, august 11th is basically a national holiday in my books – so i decided that on the 11th of every month we should virtually celebrate a little bit by sharing a birthday-worthy cocktail!
i’ve put in diligent drunken nights research + made a few tweaks to the agave mule that’s buzzing around the world wide web – so i couldn’t think of a better cocktail to start with! with warm weather soon upon us, grab yourself some bright copper kettles mugs, whip up this soon-to-be-favorite + then find yourself a sturdy table to dance on. that’s how good it is.
- 3oz tequila
- ½ lime, quartered
- 5 mint leaves
- 4oz of ginger beer
- in a shaker, add juice from ½ a lime + muddle the mint leaves in the bottom of the shaker
- add tequila + a handful of ice.
- cover you shaker + shake for about 20 seconds.
- strain into a copper mug filled with ice.
- top with ginger beer + garnish with a lime wedge. enjoy!
does using a shaker make you shake in your boots? you can assemble the agave mules right in the copper mug! simply start the first step -muddling- right in the bottom of your mug. once done, then add ice up to the mug rim + add the rest of the ingredients. finally, give it a swirl with a drink stirrer, or knife, whatever you’ve got! o less-dishes lé!
you can easily make this into a mocktail by combining the fresh squeezed lime juice, mint + ice with 1/2 oz of this ginger syrup + a dash of soda water. they also make non-alcoholic ginger beer that would be a no-brainer of a swap!
why the copper mug? learn the facts here!
